Bedroom Makover

I have been stumped on our bedroom decor since we purchased the house in February. It seems like I had a direction for every other room but ours! Here is what it looked like before:
However, last week when my mom gave me the idea of covering a duvet insert with sheets it all came together. We received 4 sets of sheets from our wedding and we still had one set in the package. I took those and made a cover like you would a pillow and added buttons and button holes not only for the practical reason of holding it together but for Step 1 in our decor.
Since the sheets are a plain cream it left room for fun decorative pillows. I took one of our body pillows and covered it with a yard of cute red fabric I found on clearance. And those who know me well, know it had to be red! I finished off the edge of it with buttons too so they coordinated with the duvet cover.

Next, I took some burlap my mom added to my stash last week and made a slip for a pillow. Then I put a piece of cardstock inside and took another piece to make a stencil that read "a + k" I sponged on dark brown fabric paint, removed the stencil and let it dry.

And lastly, I took a duvet cover we received from our wedding that was chocolate brown (probably my second favorite color), cut it in half and made curtains out it! The reason I just didn't go with that cover in the first place was because of our "firstborn son" as my husband calls him, our orange, fluffy cat, Go, who pretty much did this during the entire project:
I would have never been able to make it look clean with him around. It went pretty fast once I had the idea and was able to do it from Friday to Sunday and for less than $15! Can't get better than that! Here is the finished project:
I'm really pleased with how it turned out and already looking forward to my next project! Wall decor: coming soon.

ok, and again...

Ok. So, I realize that I have made myself a liar from the first and only other post I have on here. Since I posted that 6 months ago, I have not had constant internet access except for my phone and let's face it, no one wants to have auto-correct write their post for them. But I've decided this week to let that fact no longer keep me from posting. The library is in walking distance or I can type them up at home and then go into work a little early to use the internet to post.

However, with that said, my life is going pretty great. We have now been married for a little over 3 months and it has been wonderful. It has been so nice to no longer have the hour and a half drive, once a week, 5 hour duration like the majority of our dating relationship was. We have been working a lot on the house and it has come such a long way. It feels like we live there, not someone else AND it doesn't look like we just moved in anymore. I have been busy on pinterest for the little things and Husband has been busy figuring out the big things (roof, driveway, etc). Here is a pinterest find that only took me the duration of a movie to make and what made it better is that I already had everything I needed for it. I used cardboard for the backing, scrapbook paper to make it pretty, a hole punch, buttons for splash of interest, and ribbon to hold it together. I also used cardboard on the back of the letters to make them stand out a little more.
Work is going well. I work for a BERNINA dealer and it has been like a dream; I get to sew for a living! I have my first class coming up this next week and I'm looking forward to that. Hopefully people sign up! I've been sewing a lot at home too. My goal is to make the majority of Christmas gifts this year so I figured I better get a move on. We'll see how far I get, but unfortunately I can't post any of those on here until after Christmas...otherwise it kind of ruins the surprise ;) But I will try to take pictures and post other things I'm working on.

Needless to say, life is going well and I've been lazy updating about it. I hope to write soon and if I don't I hope someone will get on me for it!

The Beginning

I have been a classic movie fan ever since my parents and I would watch the Ten Commandments every Easter. Why it was on during Easter still baffles me, but it was a tradition and Charleston Heston will always be what I picture when I think of Moses. However, through this love of classic movies I watched the renowned Casablanca (that's movie that's always on AFI's 100 top whatever lists).  And it's in this movie that the famous line "Louis, I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship" was born.

The reason why I referenced that was not only so I could talk about one of my favorite classic movies, but I am about to embark on several new beginnings and beautiful friendships. So, I've created this blog to share with those who have gotten me this far and want to continue to walk with me.

My 2012 New Beginnings List:
1. I have accepted a new job and will be moving an hour and a half away from where I grew up.
2. I will become a wife to a wonderful man in June.
3. We bought a house on Willow St. (hint the name of the blog).

Ok, so that only lists as three things but if you think about them, they're no small undertaking. With those come a new community, wonderful in-laws, new friends, a new church family, new responsibilities as a wife and a homeowner, and a new daily routine. So join me as I attempt to tackle these exciting new events.

Love,
On Willow
